I say good day to you, sir!
Those who regularly read the Malcontent know about my crusade to "deputize the citizenry" in the fight against bad manners.
Now it looks like I have some company. A coalition of civility experts (don't ask me how one gets that title) has published an anthology called "Modern Manners: The Thinking Person's Guide to Social Graces." While I applaud their initiative, I find some of their tactics a bit too reserved. They suggest, for example, that you retrieve an usher to silence a loud talker in a movie.
I prefer the direct approach. While responding, "hey asshole, shut up!" may be impolitic, there's nothing wrong with aggressively confronting the aggressively rude.
