His English ain't so good, either

Interesting how, when it suits him politically, George W. can't speak enough Spanish (and who could forget the 2000 GOP convention, with its endless parade of mariachi bands intended to demonstrate how Latino-friendly the Republicans had allegedly become).

But now that speaking two languages somehow makes you suspicious, Bush claims his espanol es muy mal.

(H)e couldn't possibly sing the national anthem in Spanish. He's not that good with his Spanish," departing White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

This comes amid reports that, during his campaign for president in 2000, Bush "would drop in at Hispanic festivals and parties, sometimes joining in singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish."

Thank God! I was certain our democracy was about to collapse.

Looking for a voice of sanity in the White House? "I don't think there's anything wrong with singing it in Spanish," Laura Bush told CNN in an interview on Wednesday.
