Back when he lived in the world's largest outdoor shopping mall, Malcontenter Bobby Bubbles used to call and brag about the weather, particularly if it was shitty where I was. "It's 78 and sunny here." "Yeah, but you're in Orlando." (Long pause).
The trees are blooming, the volleyball players are doffing their shirts ... it's a day so glorious (watch the hypberole there, Boone) that it requires a soundtrack. I've chosen Digable Planets as my background musical selection of the day, and they've fit the mood perfectly.
Hard to believe it's been 13 years since "Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) was released, though the music is far from moldy. There was a little-heard follow-up ("Blowout Comb") and nothing since, save for a recently recorded compilation disc.
Is there no room for fashionable socialists in rap?
***As much as I'm enjoying "Where I'm From" right now, there's still no topping "Sittin' by the Riverside" by the Kinks as the best sunny day single. (Honorable mention: the "Tra La La" song by the Banana Splits).
