Faith plus one

Just happened upon the "South Park" episode where Cartman starts a Christian rock band. Dead letter perfect.

Think "Once, Twice, Three Times My Savior" is a reach? Check out some of the titles from Billboard's Top 20 Christian songs:

Jesus, Take The Wheel

Cry Out To Jesus

How Great Is Our God

I Need You To Love Me

Find Your Wings

Holding Onto You

All That I Am

Even Jesus must tire of all this schmaltz.

Seems Christian rock has also become a refuge for washed-up pop singers such as former "American Idol" contestant Carrie Underwood and Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell. Perhaps they've taken Cartman's advice:

"All we have to do to make Christian songs is take regular old songs and add Jesus stuff to them."

So if Michael McDonald's fortunes on the adult contemporary charts ever change, I'm sure he could find a home as a Christ (soft) rocker. Maybe "Yah Mo B There, 2006?"

Or he could just move to Germany and try to usurp David Hasselhoff.

  1. The thing I hate about that "Jesus Take The Wheel" song is that it promotes unsafe driving. The girl in it hits some black ice and throws up her hands to pray to Jesus. Has no one taught her to turn into the skid?

BTW, John Tesh went Xian. 'Nuff said.
